Biography
Alex Nankivell brought a Super Rugby pedigree to Munster when he joined the Irish province in 2023. Born on 25 October 1996, the New Zealand-born centre arrived having spent his formative years in New Zealand with the Crusaders, one of the most successful franchises in the southern hemisphere. A robust and reliable defender, Nankivell has quickly become a key organiser in the Munster midfield, marshalling the defensive line and providing structure outside the half-backs. In attack he offers a strong carrying option, using his footwork and power to get his side onto the front foot and bring runners into space. His experience of high-pressure rugby has proved valuable for Munster, adding composure and physicality to their backline as they compete across the United Rugby Championship and Europe. Comfortable throughout the midfield, he combines the defensive discipline expected of an inside centre with the attacking instincts to threaten wider channels. Since his move to Ireland, Nankivell has established himself as a dependable presence, valued for his consistency and his ability to perform the unseen work that underpins a well-functioning backline.
