Biography
Leinster and Ireland prop Andrew Porter is one of the defining front-row forwards of his generation. Born in Dublin on 16 January 1996, he came through the Leinster academy and has since become a near-automatic selection for Andy Farrell's Ireland side. A powerful, abrasive scrummager with excellent dynamism in the loose, Porter is notable among modern internationals for having operated at Test level on both sides of the front row, transitioning from tighthead to loosehead without losing his place in the starting XV. At club level he has been at the heart of Leinster's sustained domestic and European ambitions, winning multiple URC titles and reaching several Champions Cup finals. Internationally, he played pivotal roles in Ireland's 2018 and 2023 Six Nations Grand Slams and in the team's climb to the top of the World Rugby rankings during that cycle. Porter's carrying work off short balls, particularly around the fringes of rucks, has become a trademark of Ireland's structured phase play, while his discipline and scrum consistency have earned the trust of successive coaching groups. He is widely regarded as a senior figure within the Irish forward pack and a core selection for any major Test campaign.
