Biography

A graduate of the Northampton Saints academy, Archie McParland is an English scrum-half competing for a role at the base of the pack at Franklin's Gardens. Born on 17 February 2005, he is among the younger half-backs on the Saints' books and forms part of the club's next generation of playmakers. McParland's game is built around a quick, accurate pass and an appetite for directing play, keeping the tempo high and the forwards moving forward. He pairs sharp service from the breakdown with a tidy kicking game and the game-management instincts a modern number nine requires. As an academy product, his focus is on adding senior experience and pressing the more established scrum-halves in the squad, offering energetic competition and cover at nine. With his age firmly on his side, McParland is regarded as a developing talent whose sharpness around the ruck and willingness to take control mark him out as one to watch in Northampton's pathway.
