Biography

Born on 13 May 2004, Barnabe Massa is a French flanker on the books at ASM Clermont Auvergne, one of the Top 14's most storied clubs. Still in the early stages of his senior career, the back-rower fits the mould of the modern loose forward: mobile across the park, abrasive in contact, and persistent in the contest for possession. Massa's game is built around defensive reliability, putting in a high tackle count and competing aggressively at the breakdown to slow or steal opposition ball. At 22, he forms part of the next generation of forwards coming through at Clermont, where the demands of week-to-week Top 14 rugby place a premium on physical conditioning and work rate. His role centres on the unglamorous but essential tasks of the trade, clearing rucks, hitting the defensive line hard, and supporting ball-carriers in attack. As he accumulates senior minutes, Massa will look to establish himself as a regular in a competitive Clermont pack and to add greater attacking influence to a foundation already rooted in honest, combative forward play.
