Biography
Leadership has followed Brad Shields throughout his career, a back-row forward whose physical, abrasive style makes him a natural figurehead wherever he plays. Born in 1991 and raised in New Zealand, the flanker built his reputation with the Hurricanes, where his lineout work, powerful carrying and defensive intensity earned him the captaincy and a central role in the pack. He went on to represent England, qualifying through parentage and adding international rugby to a career defined by relentless effort and set-piece reliability. An imposing presence in contact, Shields sets the tone for those around him, leading through actions as much as words. Capable of operating across the back row, he combines the breakdown nous of an openside with the carrying ballast of a blindside, giving any pack a durable and combative presence. Whether marshalling the defence or providing go-forward in attack, Shields remains a high-workrate enforcer who thrives in the heat of the forward battle and leads by the standards he sets in contact.
