Biography

Born on 24 January 2003, England-qualified centre Charlie McCaig has established himself as a dependable presence in the Exeter Chiefs midfield. A graduate of the club's academy, McCaig combines powerful running lines with the kind of organised, dependable defending that midfielders are increasingly asked to provide in the modern game. His ability to take the ball to the gainline gives the Chiefs a platform from which to build their attacking phases, while his communication and positioning help anchor the defensive structure outside him. Among the highlights of his developing career is his involvement in Exeter's Premiership Rugby Cup-winning campaign, a useful proving ground for a young centre learning the demands of senior rugby. As he continues to accumulate experience, McCaig profiles as a midfielder who can contribute at both ends of the field, equally comfortable initiating an attacking sequence as he is shutting down opposition ball-carriers. With the physical attributes and academy grounding already in place, he remains one of the promising centres in the Exeter setup.
