Biography

Welsh flanker Christian Coleman has carved out a role with the Dragons as an industrious openside whose game is built around defensive volume and a relentless presence at the breakdown. Born on 31 August 1998, he emerged through the Welsh regional pathway before establishing himself as a regular in the Dragons' back row in the United Rugby Championship. Coleman's primary currency is work rate. He racks up tackles, competes hard for turnovers and looks to act as a link between the forwards and backs, securing quick ball and pressuring opposition attacks at the contact point. His low body position and timing over the ball make him a threat to slow possession, a quality that gives his side a platform in defence. Playing for a Dragons region that has frequently been in rebuilding mode, Coleman has been a steady and committed performer, the type of openside who shoulders the unseen workload that underpins a team's defensive structure. As he continues to develop, his ambition will be to add further consistency and turnover production to a game already defined by effort and competitiveness.
