Ed Byrne

Ed Byrne, born on 9 September 1993, is an Irish forward currently listed as a flanker for Cardiff Rugby, having moved across the Irish Sea after a long stint in the Leinster system. Now into his thirties, Byrne brings significant URC and European experience to the Cardiff back row. His game is grounded in tight forward work. He is comfortable in physical confrontation, contributes around the breakdown and ruck, and provides the kind of set-piece presence and dressing-room standards that come from years inside one of Europe's most consistent provincial set-ups. He is also a useful option in the maul, both attacking and defending, where his strength and experience matter.
