Biography

Fintan Gunne emerged from the Leinster academy as one of the brightest scrum-half prospects in Irish rugby. Born on 28 July 2003, he is known for his sharp service, tactical kicking and willingness to snipe around the fringes of the ruck. Gunne first caught wider attention when he helped captain Ireland to an Under-20 Grand Slam in 2022, a campaign that marked him out as a leader as well as a playmaker. He made his senior debut for Leinster in 2023, adding provincial experience to a fast-rising career. At number nine he offers energy and pace, qualities that make him an effective option both as a starter and as an impact replacement capable of injecting tempo in the closing stages of a match. Operating within one of Europe's strongest squads, Gunne continues to compete for game time against established internationals, using each appearance to refine his game management and decision-making. His combination of quick distribution, kicking intelligence and competitive edge gives Leinster genuine depth at half-back and positions him as a player with a promising future in the Irish system.
