Biography

Developed through the Newcastle pathway, Freddie Lockwood is a combative loose forward at the Newcastle Red Bulls, the rebranded Premiership club formerly known as the Falcons. Born on 31 December 2000, he made the step up from the academy to senior Premiership rugby and has built his game around mobility, tackling intensity and a busy presence around the ruck. Operating in one of the most physically demanding positions on the field, Lockwood provides the grafting back-row presence required in a competition that prizes work rate and abrasiveness. He is not yet an international name, but he forms part of a Newcastle squad rebuilding under a fresh identity, and his ability to compete at the breakdown gives the side a willing option for the attritional contests that characterise the Premiership. As the Red Bulls look to re-establish themselves under new ownership and branding, forwards developed through the club's own academy carry particular significance for its longer-term direction. For Lockwood, the goal is to convert that homegrown foundation into a settled run of senior selection.
