Biography

Australian flanker George Blake brings aggression and a competitive edge to the Queensland Reds' back row, a loose forward who sets his standards by the intensity of his defensive work and his presence at the breakdown. Born on 11 June 2001, he is among the younger forwards developing within the Reds' Super Rugby Pacific setup. Blake's game is defined by relentless pressure. He tackles with purpose, carries strongly into contact and shows a genuine knack for competing over the ball, the kind of pilfering instinct that can swing the momentum of a contest. That appetite for the contact area makes him a tone-setter in defence, repeatedly putting his body on the line to disrupt opposition attacks and win back possession. As a young back-rower, Blake is still building his body of senior experience, but the attributes that matter most for an openside, work rate, physicality and breakdown timing, are already evident. Within the Reds' forward pack he is viewed as an emerging competitor whose energy and combativeness give the side bite at the contact point, and his trajectory will be one for Queensland supporters to follow as he matures into the professional game.
