Biography
A bruising and direct midfielder, George Moala has long been valued for his physicality in contact and his ability to break the line from a standing start. Born on 5 November 1990, Moala first made his mark in New Zealand, earning five caps for the All Blacks and building a Super Rugby career with the Blues before taking his game to the northern hemisphere. He has since become a key figure for ASM Clermont Auvergne in France's Top 14, where his hard carrying provides the front-foot ball his side thrives on. More recently he has represented his ancestral Tonga at international level, adding test experience to a long and well-travelled career. At Clermont, Moala operates principally as a gain-line centre, taking the ball to the line with power and offering defensive solidity in the midfield channels. His strengths are his ball-carrying, his line-breaking ability and the physical edge he brings to every contact, qualities that make him a reliable source of momentum for his team. Experienced, durable and consistently combative, Moala remains an important presence in the Clermont midfield, blending the lessons of a career spanning two hemispheres with the directness that has defined his game throughout.
