Biography

Welsh openside flanker Harri Deaves, born on 13 June 2001, has emerged from the Ospreys pathway as one of the region's most promising back-row prospects. A former Wales Under-20 captain, Deaves cut his teeth in age-grade rugby leading a national side, and that early leadership exposure has carried into his senior development with the Swansea-based region. As a specialist seven, his game is built around the breakdown — he is consistently quick to the ruck, technically sound over the ball, and prepared to absorb contact in pursuit of turnovers. His tackling work is notable for its tenacity rather than its size; he favours low chop tackles to bring down bigger ball-carriers, then bounces back to compete for the resulting possession. With ball in hand he is comfortable as a link runner around the corner, supporting carries and taking short-range options when the situation calls for it. Inside the Ospreys, Deaves is regarded as part of a younger group of forwards being developed into longer-term first-choice contenders, with coaching staff highlighting his rugby intelligence and willingness to shoulder responsibility.
