Biography
An elusive and pacey runner, Harrison Obatoyinbo is among the more exciting young backs on the Newcastle Red Bulls' books. Born on 15 July 2001, he is comfortable across the back three, operating on the wing or at fullback, and uses his footwork and acceleration to find space and beat defenders in broken play. Obatoyinbo reads attacking opportunities sharply, often appearing as the finisher at the end of sweeping team moves, and his counter-attacking instincts make him a threat whenever he gathers the ball with room to run. He is willing to inject himself into the line from deep, adding an extra dimension to the Red Bulls' attack and asking questions of tiring defences. Alongside his attacking flair he continues to develop the positional and aerial sides of back-three play, as well as the defensive responsibilities that come with covering the widest channels. Still building his senior experience, he represents an important part of Newcastle's future, offering the kind of speed and unpredictability that can unlock tight defences and turn defence into attack in an instant, and he looks set to take on a growing role as his game matures.
