Biography

Among the more experienced names on Stade Rochelais' books, Jack Nowell joined the La Rochelle-based Top 14 side after spending the bulk of his career at Exeter Chiefs in the English Premiership. Born in Cornwall on 11 April 1993, Nowell built his reputation at Sandy Park as part of an Exeter side that rose from Premiership newcomers into a club that captured the Premiership and European titles in 2020. His England career has been similarly substantial, with appearances stretching across multiple Six Nations and World Cup cycles and a reputation for hard-edged work both with and without the ball. At La Rochelle — a club that has lifted back-to-back European Champions Cup titles in recent seasons — Nowell has slotted into a back-three rotation that already boasted strong attacking options, bringing his established Test pedigree and a willingness to do the unglamorous work over the top of the ball. He is comfortable on the wing or at fullback and offers his side a senior voice in pressure moments. Now in his thirties, Nowell remains a high-end professional whose career has spanned much of what is available to an English back at club and international level.
