Jaco Visagie

Jaco Visagie enjoyed a durable thirteen-year professional career as one of South African rugby's experienced hookers before injury brought it to a close. Born on 8 July 1992, the front-rower came through the age-grade ranks in Boland before establishing himself at the Bulls, where he spent the bulk of his career across Super Rugby, the United Rugby Championship and the Currie Cup. His journey also took him abroad for spells in Europe, including a loan with Gloucester and a stint at Stade Toulousain in France, broadening his experience of the game's differing styles. He later moved to the Lions in Johannesburg, adding leadership and front-row know-how to the pack. As a hooker, Visagie built his reputation on the staples of the position: accurate lineout throwing, a strong scrummaging contribution and tireless defensive effort around the breakdown. In November 2025 he was forced into retirement after a neck injury sustained earlier that season, ending a career defined by consistency and professionalism. His longevity at the top level of South African and European rugby marked him out as a respected and durable campaigner among his peers.
