Biography
James Hendren is an Australian fullback who has emerged through the New South Wales Waratahs system as an exciting attacking option. Born on 22 January 2003, he is equally comfortable at fullback or on the wing, where his footwork and acceleration make him a threat in open space. He caught the eye with a remarkable four-try haul against the Reds in the 2025 Super Rugby AUS competition, and went on to make his professional debut for the Waratahs in February 2026. Hendren was named in an extended Australia Under-20 squad in 2023 but was forced out by injury before he could add age-grade caps, a setback he has since put behind him. Sharp instincts in the back field, a willingness to counter-attack and reliable handling under pressure are the hallmarks of his game. He is yet to be capped at senior international level, and his focus remains on establishing himself as a regular starter in Super Rugby Pacific. With his finishing pedigree and versatility across the back three, Hendren is regarded as one of the brighter young outside-back prospects in Australian rugby.
