Biography
A product of Ulster Rugby's academy system, James McCormick is a physical and industrious flanker who has worked his way into senior contention with his home province. Born on 8 January 2002, the back-rower has caught the eye with his relentless effort at the breakdown and a strong defensive presence that belies his relatively limited experience at the top level. McCormick's game is built on the combative, ground-level work of an openside-style flanker: competing for turnovers, hitting rucks and making his tackles count in Ulster's defensive line. His energy and willingness to put his body on the line have made him a useful option as the province manages its squad across the demands of the United Rugby Championship and European competition. As a young forward still developing his all-round game, he offers an exciting glimpse of Ulster's production line of homegrown back-row talent. With continued game time, McCormick has the physical attributes and work ethic to grow into an increasingly important figure in the Ulster pack.
