Biography
Jarod Cairns, born 18 May 2001, plies his trade as a flanker on the Lions' senior roster in South Africa's professional rugby structure. A back-row forward by trade, Cairns offers his side the physical edge typical of South African loose forwards: hard tackling in defence, a strong presence at the breakdown, and an ability to carry into contact. His role within the Lions' pack is to compete for turnovers at the ruck, contribute lifting and jumping options in the lineout, and connect the forwards to the wider attacking shape. Cairns came through the Lions' development pathway in Johannesburg, progressing through age-grade and academy systems before establishing himself within the senior playing group. At twenty-five, he sits in the early-to-mid section of his career, where consistency of selection and contribution measure his progress. The Lions have invested in building a back-row group capable of delivering across the URC and other competitions, and Cairns is part of that competitive picture as he pushes for more regular starting roles within the side at Ellis Park.
