Biography
Born on 7 January 1999, Jay-Cee Nel is a Namibian centre plying his trade in South African rugby with the Bulls. A representative of the Welwitschias on the international stage, Nel has carried his nation's colours while developing his game in one of Super Rugby's most demanding environments. His value to the Bulls lies in the physical edge he brings to midfield: he is a willing defender who reads attacking shape well and a strong ball-carrier capable of getting his side over the gain line. Coaches lean on him as a dependable defensive organiser, a player who shores up the centre channel and asks hard questions of opposition midfields with his direct running. As he continues to accumulate experience at the highest provincial level, Nel offers Namibia a seasoned, abrasive option in the No. 12 or No. 13 jersey and remains a key building block in his country's plans. His experience of high-tempo Super Rugby, where collisions come thick and fast, has sharpened the parts of his game that travel well to the Test arena, and he continues to shoulder a heavy defensive workload whenever he pulls on the Welwitschias shirt.
