Biography

An experienced Irish playmaker, JJ Hanrahan has spent much of his career directing play from fly-half, the position where his game management and goal-kicking are most valuable. Born on 27 July 1992, Hanrahan came through the Munster system and is closely associated with the province, where his understanding of the number 10 role provides tactical control and depth. A measured kicker out of hand and off the tee, he is valued for his decision-making, his ability to flatten the attacking line and his composure in managing a game's territorial battle. Over a career that has taken in several clubs, Hanrahan has built a reputation as a versatile and dependable option who can also cover inside centre and full-back, giving his coaches flexibility across the backline. His role is less about flash than about steering a team around the park, controlling tempo and ensuring the side plays in the right areas. Experience and a cool head under pressure remain among his most important contributions.
