Biography

Joe Bailey, born on 6 July 2004, is an England-qualified flanker who has progressed through the Exeter Chiefs system. A back-rower in the classic Exeter mould, he is valued for his tenacity at the breakdown and his willingness to carry hard and direct in the loose, hallmarks of the club's famously uncompromising forward philosophy. As one of the younger forwards on the Chiefs' books, Bailey has worked to translate his physical attributes into the demands of senior rugby. He plays with a high work rate, looking to make an impact at the ruck, in the tackle and in the carry, and his energy makes him a natural fit for a pack that prizes relentless effort over flashier qualities. His role is built around the contest for possession — slowing opposition ball, securing his own side's, and providing momentum through repeated involvements. At his stage of development, Bailey represents the kind of homegrown forward Exeter have long prioritised: hardworking, physically robust and schooled in the fundamentals of back-row play. As he gains experience in the Premiership and continues to add to his game, he is positioned to push for a more prominent role within the Chiefs' rotation, building on the grounding he has received within the club's academy and forward setup.
