Biography

Joel Grayson is an English playmaker who has come through into senior rugby as a fly-half with the Newcastle Red Bulls. Born in April 2002, he belongs to a generation of young number tens asked to control a game with both boot and hands. Grayson's strengths lie in game management: organising the backline, varying the point of attack and taking on the goal-kicking duties that so often decide tight contests. Composed for a player still early in his career, he looks to play what is in front of him, mixing a tactical kicking game with the ability to put runners into space. As the pivot of the side, he carries responsibility for tempo — knowing when to slow a game down and when to inject pace. His role also demands leadership, communicating with forwards and outside backs to keep the attack structured under pressure. Still building his experience at senior level, Grayson represents an important part of Newcastle's longer-term planning at fly-half, a position where reliability and decision-making are prized above all. With continued game time, he has the platform to establish himself as a first-choice option and a trusted goal-kicker.
