Biography
Jonathan Roche is a South African outside back who came through the Western Province youth structures before earning his place in the Stormers setup. Born on 1 February 2003, he is quick, runs hard and direct, and is dependable both under the high ball and in the defensive line.
Roche reached an early milestone with his senior debut in the United Rugby Championship, and he has continued to push for game time as an athletic option across the back three. His pace makes him a constant threat whenever space opens out wide, while his willingness to chase, compete in the air, and defend diligently means he stays involved even when attacking ball is scarce.
As a graduate of one of South African rugby's most productive development systems, Roche brings genuine athleticism and a strong grounding in the fundamentals of back play. The Stormers have built a reputation for blooding young talent and trusting them in a competitive URC environment, which gives prospects like Roche a realistic route to senior minutes.
Still in the formative stage of his career, he offers the Stormers valuable depth and an attacking spark out wide. His ambition will be to convert that raw potential into a more established role within a backline that remains one of the most contested in South African rugby.
