Biography
Born on 17 January 2001, Josh Lord represents the next generation of New Zealand forward talent, bringing energy and athleticism to the Gallagher Chiefs as a flanker in Super Rugby Pacific. A New Zealander through and through, Lord embodies the qualities that define the modern loose forward: relentless at the breakdown, mobile around the park, and willing to carry hard into contact.
Operating at flanker, Lord occupies one of the most demanding roles in the game, requiring a player to contribute across virtually every phase of play. His youth belies a composure and physicality that allow him to compete effectively at the highest domestic level, and his development within the Chiefs environment — one of Super Rugby's most consistently competitive programmes — has provided him with a strong foundation to grow.
At his best, Lord combines the work ethic of a traditional New Zealand loosie with the athleticism demanded by the contemporary game. He is effective over the ball at the breakdown, uses his frame and fitness to press through the defensive line, and offers consistent carrying ability in the tight exchanges that decide close contests.
Still in the early stages of what promises to be a notable career, Lord continues to develop under the guidance of the Chiefs' coaching staff. With New Zealand producing a deep pool of forward talent, his continued progression in the franchise environment will be central to his long-term ambitions. For a player not yet in his mid-twenties, the trajectory is encouraging, and Lord stands as one of the more compelling young forwards in the New Zealand rugby system.
