Biography
Josh Macleod, born 27 October 1996, is a Welsh openside flanker and the current captain of the Scarlets, having been appointed to the role in 2023. A genuine specialist seven, the Llanelli-based forward is known across the URC as one of the most accomplished breakdown technicians in the Welsh regions — a player whose timing, body height and jackal threat regularly turn over opposition possession.
His standing in the Welsh game was formally recognised when he was named Welsh Player of the Season in 2021, a reward for the consistency he brought to a Scarlets side that has often relied on his work in the contact area. Macleod's career has been shaped by his ability to combine that specialist breakdown role with a high tackle count and the leadership qualities that ultimately earned him the captaincy.
As a senior figure in the Scarlets squad, he is now responsible for setting standards as well as setting the tone in matches. His combination of technical skill, durability and on-field intelligence makes him a cornerstone of the West Wales region and a representative of the traditional Welsh openside lineage.
