Biography
Argentina captain Julián Montoya is one of the most influential hookers in the modern international game. Born on 29 October 1993, he rose through the Argentine pathway and became a fixture of Los Pumas in his early twenties, before taking his game to Europe with Leicester Tigers in the English Premiership and, subsequently, Section Paloise in the Top 14. Montoya's profile is built on relentless defensive work, a combative breakdown presence and reliable set-piece delivery, with his leadership widely credited as a key factor in Argentina's deep run at the 2023 Rugby World Cup. He lifted the Premiership trophy with Leicester in 2022 and has captained the Pumas through some of their most memorable Test victories, including wins over top-ranked opposition in the Rugby Championship. His move to Pau introduces that same heart-on-sleeve, front-row leadership to a Section Paloise side looking to translate recent investment into consistent Top 14 standing. With more than 90 Test caps accumulated before his peak years, Montoya remains central to Argentina's planning and to whichever club side he anchors.
