Biography
Quick, sharp and full of energy, Keagan Johannes is a scrum-half who has grown up within the Bulls system in Pretoria. Born on 27 November 1999 in Mamre, near South Africa's Cape West Coast, he found his way to Pretoria through the renowned schools and junior structures that feed one of South African rugby's powerhouse unions. Johannes plays for the Bulls in the United Rugby Championship and the Blue Bulls in the Currie Cup, where his crisp service and willingness to snipe around the fringes have made him a lively presence at the base. As a number nine his role is to set the tempo — delivering quick ball, managing the game with his tactical kicking and keeping defences honest with darting runs close to the ruck. Operating in a squad well stocked with experienced half-backs, Johannes has carved out a role as a high-energy option capable of injecting pace and sharpness, and his attacking instinct around the breakdown adds an extra dimension to the Bulls' play.
