Biography
Hailing from Australia and born on 15 May 2003, Lachlan Shaw is a young flanker on the books at the ACT Brumbies, one of the country's most consistently successful Super Rugby franchises. He is part of a long lineage of openside-style forwards being produced through the Brumbies' pathway in Canberra.
Shaw is characterised by a high work rate at the breakdown and a willingness to throw himself into defensive collisions — the defining traits of contemporary opensides operating in Super Rugby Pacific. His role has been to add depth and grit to a Brumbies back row that has historically been a stronghold for the franchise.
Having made his Super Rugby debut for the Brumbies, Shaw is at the stage of his career where the focus is on translating early opportunities into a settled place in the senior matchday picture. Australian flanker depth has been a much-discussed area at Wallabies level, and young forwards in his mould are watched closely as potential future contributors to the national setup.
His ongoing development centres on building a more rounded carrying and lineout game on top of his core defensive identity, the kind of well-rounded back-row package that Brumbies coaches have long sought to cultivate at GIO Stadium.
