Biography

Liam Couturier is one of the promising young props coming through the academy at Aviron Bayonnais. Born in 2006, the French forward has progressed within the club's formation structures and has already represented his country at age-grade level, earning caps for France in the Under-20 Six Nations during the 2025 campaign. That international exposure marks him out as a forward with genuine potential, having tested himself against the best young players in Europe. As a front-row forward, Couturier's game is centred on the set-piece and the physical demands of the tight five, areas where he continues to build the strength and technique required for senior rugby. His development at Bayonne, a club with a passionate support base and a strong forward identity, provides an ideal environment for a young prop to learn his trade. The challenge ahead is the familiar one for academy forwards: converting age-grade promise into senior first-team opportunities in the highly competitive Top 14. With a formation contract keeping him at the club, Couturier has the platform to keep developing, and his France Under-20 honours suggest a player worth tracking as he works towards establishing himself at professional level over the coming seasons.
