Biography

One of the youngest faces in the Exeter Chiefs back row, Louie Gulley is an English flanker born on 8 May 2005. Gulley has progressed through the club's academy and age-grade structures, developing a back-row game built on industry, breakdown work, and physical defence. He is a relentless tackler and looks for opportunities to slow opposition possession at the ruck — exactly the profile Chiefs coaches have repeatedly turned to as they build out their forward depth. Standing on the edge of senior selection, his exposure has come primarily through cup rugby and academy fixtures, where he has been able to test himself against more experienced opponents and refine his understanding of professional defensive systems. Off the field, Gulley is regarded as a diligent student of the game, willing to spend time in the video room and in extra training to chase the small margins that separate Premiership fringe players from regulars. His pathway from here will rest on bulking up to the demands of senior forward play, sustaining injury-free runs, and converting strong cup performances into starts. Coaches view him as a long-term project in the back row, with the makings of a tone-setting flanker if his development continues on its current curve.
