Biography
Marno Grobbelaar is a young front-row forward making his way at the Lions in Johannesburg. Born on 10 September 2003, the South African hooker is part of a new generation coming through at the union, bringing the physicality and set-piece focus the position demands. As a hooker, the core of Grobbelaar's job lies in the tight exchanges: throwing accurately at the lineout, providing power and technique at scrum time and getting through a heavy workload of carries and tackles in the loose. Built for the collisions of the front row, he looks to make his presence felt around the field while shouldering the specialist responsibilities that come with the number two jersey. Competing for game time in a Lions squad active in both the United Rugby Championship and the Currie Cup, Grobbelaar is at an early and formative stage of his career, working to establish himself among more experienced forwards. His development is one to follow as he looks to translate his physical tools and set-piece skills into a regular role at senior level.
