Marnus Potgieter

A versatile outside back who can operate at centre or on the wing, Marnus Potgieter has built his career within the Sharks set-up in Durban. Born in 1999, the South African came through the franchise's development structures before establishing himself in their United Rugby Championship and European squads. Potgieter is valued for his finishing instinct, his work rate across the back line and the directness he brings when carrying into contact. Earlier in his career he featured in South Africa's age-grade ranks, gaining experience that helped sharpen his transition into senior professional rugby. At the Sharks he offers coaches flexibility, comfortable slotting in across the midfield and back three depending on selection needs, and he competes for minutes in one of the more competitive backline rosters in the URC. His strengths lie in his pace, his appetite for chasing kicks and contesting in the air, and his reliability under the high ball.
