Biography
Mateo Garcia is a French fly-half who joined RC Toulon for the 2025/26 season, arriving from Union Bordeaux-Bègles to add depth and competition at No. 10. Born on 8 July 2002, he came through the Bordeaux academy and gained valuable senior experience there, including involvement in the club's 2023/24 Champions Cup campaign, in which he scored against Saracens. His switch to Toulon was framed as part of the club's reshaping of its playmaking options following Dan Biggar's departure. Garcia represented France at Under-20 level, winning five caps in the 2021 and 2022 campaigns, and is regarded as a creative distributor with a tidy tactical kicking game. At Toulon his challenge is to stake a claim for regular minutes among a competitive group of backs and to demonstrate the consistency required to direct a leading Top 14 side. He has yet to be capped at senior international level. A composed organiser with the ability to vary his game, Garcia represents a promising young option at fly-half whose development will be closely watched as he settles into a new environment on the Côte d'Azur.
