Biography

Mateo Guerin is a young French prop who has continued his development in the professional ranks with US Dax in the Pro D2. Born in 2005, he came through the academy system at Aviron Bayonnais before moving on in search of senior game time at the second-tier club. As a front-row forward, Guerin's focus is on the fundamentals that define the position: scrummaging technique, work rate around the field and the physical conditioning required to compete in the demanding French league structure. At this stage of his career he remains very much a prospect, building experience and adding the technical detail that the transition from age-grade to senior rugby demands. The move to Dax offers him the opportunity to test himself in a competitive Pro D2 environment, where front-row forwards are exposed to the realities of senior scrummaging early. Like many young French props, his pathway is a gradual one, with the emphasis on accumulating minutes and refining his set-piece craft rather than chasing early honours. For now, Guerin represents a developing talent working to establish himself, and the coming seasons will be important in determining whether he can build a sustained career at professional level.
