Biography

Mathis Clavier is a French prop developing through the academy at Stade Rochelais. Born on 4 January 2006, he is a front-row forward whose game rests on the fundamentals of the position: set-piece stability, scrummaging strength and the willingness to do the close-quarter work in the tight exchanges. Clavier is part of the young talent coming through at La Rochelle, a club whose recent prominence in the Top 14 and on the European stage places a premium on a reliable, technically sound front row. Prop is among the most demanding positions to master, and young forwards typically need time, coaching and physical maturity before they can hold their own against seasoned international opposition in the scrum. Clavier's immediate task is to keep refining his technique, build the strength the role requires and earn the trust that comes from consistent performances at the set piece. Should that development continue, he profiles as a promising option for the future of the club's tight five, the kind of home-grown forward that successful academies are built to produce and that La Rochelle will be eager to nurture.
