Biography

Developed through the celebrated Stade Toulousain academy, Mathis Gil is a young French forward learning his trade with the club's Espoirs and reserve sides. Born on 29 March 2006, he is part of a Toulouse production line renowned for turning out mobile, technically accomplished forwards for the Top 14 and the French national team. Gil's game reflects that philosophy: he is comfortable in the loose, works hard around the field and blends physicality with the handling skills Toulouse prizes in its pack. At this stage his priority is development, accumulating minutes in age-grade and second-string rugby, sharpening his set-piece and breakdown work, and adjusting to the physical demands of the professional game. Progression at a club with Toulouse's strength in depth is fiercely competitive, and the club's structure is built to bring young forwards through patiently. Regarded as a promising prospect within that system, Gil aims to follow the well-trodden pathway from the Toulouse academy toward senior honours, adding the experience and consistency needed to make the step up.
