Biography

Matt Faessler is an Australian hooker and one of the more promising front-row forwards to emerge from the Queensland Reds system in recent seasons. Born on 21 December 1998, he came through the state's pathway programmes before establishing himself in the senior squad. Faessler is a dynamic, mobile hooker whose game fits the modern template. He throws accurately at the lineout, carries strongly over the gain line and is a willing defender around the ruck. His fitness levels allow him to contribute across the full match, making him equally effective starting or closing games. A breakout Super Rugby Pacific campaign earned him serious international attention, and he made his Wallabies Test debut in 2024, a significant milestone in a fast-developing career. He has since looked to build on that debut with further Test involvement as Australian coaches look to develop a new-generation front row. At the Reds, Faessler has become a central figure in the forward pack. His combination of work rate, set-piece reliability and athletic profile positions him as a long-term option for both club and country.
