Biography

Now part of the Scarlets back-row group, Max Douglas works in the loose forward unit at the Welsh region, where the modern flanker role demands a balance of breakdown contest, defensive workload and supporting carries. The Llanelli-based club, one of Welsh rugby's four regional sides competing in the United Rugby Championship, has long produced forwards capable of operating across the back row, and Douglas slots into that tradition. His day-to-day game is built around the unglamorous staples of flanker play — chaining tackles in defence, competing on the deck for turnover ball and folding into the next phase to provide additional carrying options. The URC season is a long one, exposing forwards to fixtures across South Africa, Italy, Ireland, Scotland and Wales, and the Scarlets typically rotate their back-row personnel across that schedule. For a player at Douglas's stage, the priority is to accumulate consistent senior minutes, sharpen lineout and maul technique and maintain the contact-area presence that defines the position. He continues to develop within a competitive Scarlets pack that mixes experienced internationals with younger contenders pushing for regular involvement.
