Biography
A Welsh-qualified inside centre with extensive Test and Premiership experience, Nick Tompkins was born on 16 February 1995. His club career has been built largely at Saracens, where he came through the academy and played a part in the north London side's run of English and European success in the late 2010s. Tompkins qualified for Wales through his maternal grandmother and made his Test debut in 2020 under Wayne Pivac, going on to become a regular in the Welsh midfield through subsequent Six Nations and World Cup cycles. As a 12, his game is built around defensive intelligence, an ability to win the gainline collision, and a strong distribution game that allows the playmakers around him to operate in space. He spent a productive loan spell with the Dragons earlier in his career, broadening his exposure to regional rugby in Wales. Tompkins has been a fixture in Welsh squads through coaching transitions and remains one of the more consistent selections in the centre, called upon for both his defensive line speed and his understanding of structured back-line patterns. Positional versatility — he can also cover outside centre — adds further value to the Welsh squad.
