Biography

Having come through the Scarlets academy, Osian Williams has steadily worked his way into the conversation as one of the region's brighter young back-row prospects. Born on 18 September 2006, the Welsh flanker is still early in his development but has already shown the high work rate and competitive instincts that academy graduates are prized for. Williams is a willing carrier who looks to get over the gain line, and he is at his most valuable around the breakdown, where his appetite for the contest and ability to threaten opposition ball give the Scarlets an additional jackal option. Defensively he is industrious and physical, the kind of forward who racks up tackles and brings energy to the less glamorous parts of the game. As a product of the regional pathway, he carries the expectation that comes with academy graduates in Welsh rugby, and his continued progression will be measured by how consistently he can impose himself at senior level. Eager, athletic and still adding to his game, Williams is a forward the Scarlets will be keen to develop through their forward ranks.
