Biography

Born on 30 November 1998, Paddy Patterson is a scrum-half on the books at Munster, where he competes in the United Rugby Championship and the European Champions Cup. A product of the province's academy system, he has built his reputation as an energetic and combative number nine whose game is defined by a quick, accurate pass and a willingness to snipe around the fringes of the ruck. Patterson is at his most dangerous when the tempo is high, using sharp footwork close to the breakdown to test tiring defences and keep his forwards moving forward. He also brings genuine bite in defence, scrapping low and hard around the contact area in a way that belies his role at half-back. Within the Munster set-up he offers important strength in depth at nine, capable of injecting pace and urgency when introduced from the bench or steadying the side's game management when handed a start. Reliable in his decision-making and tireless in support, Patterson remains a useful tactical option in a competitive provincial squad.
