Biography

In the attritional world of France's Pro D2, young forwards are forged quickly, and Remi Devis is learning his trade in exactly that setting. A flanker at US Montauban, he was born on 16 February 2006 and, at 20, represents the developmental tier of a club that — like much of the second division — blends experienced senior figures with academy graduates and emerging back-rowers. Devis's position requires the staple flanker traits of tackle work, breakdown contest and a lineout option, qualities that are particularly tested by the intensity and physicality of the competition. The Pro D2 is widely regarded as one of the most demanding leagues in European rugby, and young forwards who establish themselves there often emerge with a hardened technical foundation. For Devis, the immediate task is the one familiar to any pathway flanker: convert promise into matchday selection, then convert selection into trust. With age on his side and a club willing to back its developmental players, his trajectory will turn on the consistency he can show across a season and the impact he can make when called on from the bench.
