Biography
At just the start of his senior journey — he was born on 2 January 2006 — Riley Norton is a flanker on the books at the Stormers, and one of the more highly regarded young forwards to come through the Cape side's system. He is known for a high work rate, disruptive defence and effectiveness at the breakdown, the staple qualities of an openside loose forward.
Norton's profile is built around energy and contact skill. As a flanker he looks to be a constant presence at the ruck, contesting possession and slowing opposition ball, while his defensive intensity makes him a useful link between the forwards and backs. He carries willingly in the loose and brings the kind of relentless involvement that allows a back-rower to influence a game without necessarily dominating the headlines.
Given his age, Norton remains a developing prospect rather than a finished article, but the attributes that excite the Stormers' coaches are already apparent: tenacity, breakdown nous and a willingness to compete physically against more experienced opponents. The United Rugby Championship offers a demanding stage on which to learn, and Norton's trajectory will be shaped by how quickly he can add consistency and physical maturity to his natural work rate. For now, he stands as one of the brighter young forwards in the Stormers' pathway.
