Biography

Rory Thornton, born on 16 March 1995, is a Welsh lock who joined Cardiff Rugby in 2023 after a long and successful spell with the Ospreys. A former Wales U20s captain, he graduated to senior international honours in 2017 and has built a reputation as a dependable lineout operator and hard-edged enforcer in the tight five. Standing among the most physically imposing locks in Welsh rugby, Thornton combines aerial skills at the lineout with relentless work in the collision zone. He is trusted to call and win key set-piece ball, disrupt opposition throws and provide a platform from which attacks are launched. At Cardiff, his experience and professionalism have helped stabilise the second row, giving the coaching staff a reliable option who understands the demands of week-in, week-out regional rugby. Thornton's combination of leadership, set-piece expertise and physicality makes him a valued figure in the Cardiff forward pack.
