Biography

Ross Byrne is an Irish fly-half who has built his reputation on calm decision-making, tactical kicking and a reliable goal-kicking boot. After a long career in Ireland establishing himself as one of the most composed game managers in European rugby, the April 1995-born number 10 joined Gloucester Rugby to bring that experience to the Gallagher Premiership. His game is built on pinpoint territorial kicking, quick reads under pressure and the ability to control tempo from the fly-half channel. A trusted goal-kicker in the tightest margins, he has frequently been the difference in close matches across his career. Internationally, Byrne earned his first Ireland cap in 2018 and has added further appearances since, valued by successive coaching groups for his steady hand in high-pressure moments. At Kingsholm he provides a dependable creative hub and experienced on-field voice, helping to shape attacking structure while anchoring the side's points-scoring threat. The combination of kicking accuracy, game management and composure makes him a valuable addition to the Gloucester squad.
