Biography

Born in South Africa on 22 December 2003, Roydon Swift is a prop currently plying his trade for US Montauban in France's Pro D2 division. He is among a number of young South Africans who have brought their forwards-orientated grounding to the second tier of French rugby, taking on the demands of a competition known for its uncompromising scrummaging contests. His work centres on the front-row platform: securing his side at the scrum, contributing at lineout time, and shouldering the carry-and-clear work that knits forward sequences together. Like many young props, the technical demands of the position mean his development is measured over seasons rather than weeks, and Montauban's setup, with its emphasis on traditional set-piece graft, gives him a strong environment in which to refine his craft. Off the field, his presence at the Sapiac reflects a wider pipeline of South African forwards who treat Pro D2 as a proving ground before pushing toward Top 14 contention. With a long career runway still ahead, Swift is positioned to build on the appearances he has logged in France's second division as he progresses through his early twenties.
