Biography

Rudolph Gerhardus "RG" Snyman is a towering South African lock, born on 29 January 1995, whose combination of height, power and surprising soft skills has made him one of the most recognisable second-rows in the global game. He has been capped repeatedly by the Springboks and has taken his career into the United Rugby Championship with Leinster Rugby. Snyman's game is built around physicality at elite scale. He is a disruptive lineout operator both in attack and defence, a heavy-impact ball carrier capable of breaking tackles in the tight channels, and a high-work-rate forward in the contact area. For a man of his frame, his offloading game and ability to link phases together add an extra dimension to his pack's attacking shape. He is a two-time Rugby World Cup winner with South Africa, having been part of the Springbok groups that lifted the trophy in 2019 and again in 2023, placing him among the most decorated second-rows of the modern era. Prior to his move to Leinster he had a long spell at Munster Rugby in Ireland, and he now adds that experience to the Leinster forward pack. Snyman remains a defining physical presence wherever he plays.
