Biography

Born in New Zealand on 11 July 2000, Sam Darry is a young forward who plies his trade in Super Rugby Pacific. Coming through the New Zealand provincial system, he has worked his way into senior squad consideration and competes for selection within the Blues' deep pack of forwards. Darry is a high-energy back-row player who looks to win collisions on both sides of the ball. He throws himself into early contact in defence, hunts the ball over the tackle and is happy to take direct carries when the pack is asked to set platform. As a young player developing in one of the toughest provincial competitions in the world, he has continued to add the tactical detail required to start in Super Rugby week after week. Off the park, Darry has the build and engine to play across the back row, giving the Blues' coaching staff useful flexibility when combinations are reshuffled for travel, injury or opposition match-ups. He represents part of the club's longer-term forward planning as the squad looks to maintain depth in the loose.
