Biography

Sam Lousi is a vastly experienced Tongan international forward who has been a mainstay of the Scarlets pack since joining the Welsh region in 2022. Born on 20 July 1991, the towering Lousi is primarily a lock but has the athleticism to cover the back row, and he arrived in Wales with a substantial Super Rugby pedigree earned during his time with the Hurricanes in New Zealand. A genuine enforcer, he brings line-out presence, powerful ball-carrying and an abrasive edge in defence — the kind of physical steel that anchors a forward effort. His international career with Tonga has seen him represent the Pacific nation on the game's biggest stages. For the Scarlets, Lousi offers leadership and hard-nosed experience, setting a physical tone up front and providing reliable go-forward ball. Now in the latter stages of his career, he remains a key figure in the engine room and a respected senior head within the squad.
